The long and illustrious careers of the Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, and Chrysler 300 may now be over, but Ram is keeping its DS-generation 1500 on sale well into its teenage years. Still known as the Dodge Ram when it first entered the scene in 2009, the truck has more recently been offered as the 1500 Classic alongside the newer-generation 1500. While its days are inevitably numbered, this truck is carrying on for at least one more year in usual Stellantis fashion.

But unfortunately, it's not all good news. While the 1500 Classic has been heralded for its value compared to newer models, pricing has risen by just over $6,000 for 2024, and the lineup has been reduced to two trim levels. The entry-level Tradesman work truck now demands a starting price of $40,700, and the rugged Warlock now costs a hefty $45,430. That means you're saving only $415 compared to the newer 1500.

Nonetheless, the Classic still has its perks. It continues to offer an old-school set of engines, with either a 3.5 liter V6 or a 5.7 liter V8 connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Inside, there are plenty of buttons and knobs surrounding a simple 7.0-inch touchscreen. So while you won't be saving much anymore, the Classic should still cater to a sizable amount of customers seeking nothing but a no-frills work machine.

Don't be surprised if this is the final year for the 1500 Classic as we know it, especially with the closing gap in savings compared to the modern-day 1500. There's a chance that the Classic moniker could live on in the form of the current pre-facelift truck once the refreshed 2025 model arrives, but today's down-to-earth version with its basic interior and naturally-aspirated engines will undoubtedly be missed.
