The 2024 Hyundai Kona enters a new generation after its initial introduction in 2017, and North America gets its first taste of the small crossover at the New York International Auto Show. Just like last year, it comes in either gas or electric powertrains, along with a performance-oriented N-Line variant.

As for the gas models, Hyundai has shown off the range-topping Limited model, along with the fun-loving N-Line. The same two engine options carry over for the second generation, with either a 2.0 liter four-cylinder or turbocharged 1.6 liter four-cylinder on offer. The former powertrain will be found in most 2024 Kona models, making around 147 horsepower paired with a CVT transmission. The 1.6 liter turbo is the more powerful option, pumping out 195 horsepower for the Limited and N-Line models. Instead of a CVT, the latter engine is paired up with an eight-speed automatic. The 2024 Kona comes in either front- or all-wheel drive.

Overall, the latest Kona grows in size compared to its predecessor, and gains a plethora of new tech. Dual 12.3" screens under a single curved panel now grace the dash. The infotainment system will support over-the-air updates for the first time ever, making the Kona one of the cheapest cars in the U.S. to have such a feature. Other tech upgrades include Hyundai's Digital Key 2, wireless phone charging, an available WiFi hotspot, and SmartSense driver assist features.

Turning to the N-Line, which is more of an appearance package than a raised hot hatch, there are many noticeable styling differences compared to standard internal-combustion Konas. Instead of black plastic cladding, the N-Line features more stylish body-color cladding paired with exclusive 19-inch wheel designs. Other exterior modifications include shiny chrome exhaust tips, a sportier front fascia, gloss black mirror caps, and a rear spoiler. The interior carries on the same performance-oriented theme, adding aluminum pedals, red detailing, door sills with N-Line badging, and sport seats with red contrast stitching. The N-Line also includes the top-of-the-line Bose sound system found in higher end Kona trims.

Full pricing and details on all Kona trims will be announced closer to the official release date. The gas-powered 2024 Kona will arrive this summer, with the Kona Electric following in the fall.
