The refreshed 2024 Kia Sorento has officially arrived on U.S. shores, debuting in Los Angeles ahead of its launch in the first quarter of 2024. Main highlights include styling tweaks for the front and rear, along with a more luxurious cabin and a new X-Pro off-road variant. These updates only apply to gas-powered models for now, as changes to the hybrid lineup won't arrive until the 2025 model year.
The exterior changes start with the new vertical headlights in front, which feature upside-down L-shaped running lights that extend into the enlarged grille. The Sorento also appears to bring back its distinctive amber DRLs for 2024, which were absent in the pre-refresh model but could have returned due to popular demand. Meanwhile at the rear, the Sorento gains a new set of taillights and mild updates to the bumpers. Two new exterior colors have been added as well, along with refreshed wheel designs. The new colors include Midnight Lake Blue and Dawning Red.
Even bigger changes occur inside, where the dashboard gains a simplified layout that incorporates a new freestanding curved display, which houses both the digital gauge cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system. The latter boasts all-new software, which features restructured menus, over-the-air updates, and wireless phone connectivity. The 12.3-inch infotainment screen is now a standard feature for all trims, while higher models gain a matching 12.3-inch gauge display. The instrument cluster on cheaper models has a smaller 4.3-inch display.
The Sorento's gas powertrains carry over for 2024, which means a 191-hp 2.5 liter inline-four still serves as the standard engine on lower trims, sending power to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic. Once again, customers can jump to the more powerful 281-hp turbocharged version, which is standard on the EX, SX, and SX Prestige. This engine upgrades to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. All models feature front-wheel drive as the default drivetrain, though all-wheel drive is optional across the board.
The existing trim lineup returns for 2024 as well, though it's joined by a new X-Pro off-road model. It sits above last year's X-Line, claiming to go beyond the latter model's rugged looks by offering real off-road chops. The X-Pro rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, along with roof racks and skid plates borrowed from the X-Line. However, while the X-Line package is available on most of the Sorento's all-wheel drive models, the X-Pro is exclusive to the fancy SX Prestige, which means you'll have to splurge if you want a truly capable Sorento.
As for the Sorento hybrid, the facelift won't come to these models in the U.S. until the 2025 model year, which means 2024MY hybrids will be identical last year's model inside and out. Kia hasn't provided many details on the updated Sorento hybrid, though we do know that both the hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants will stick with the same powertrains as before. Kia also said there will be a fancy new Dust Blue interior color option available for 2025, though additional specs remain a mystery.
Pricing for the updated gas-powered Sorento hasn't been announced yet, but expect to see a slight bump from the 2023 version's $30,090 starting price.
