Shelby American has finally gotten its hands on the latest S650-generation Mustang, and the result is about as outrageous as you'd expect. This is the 2024 Super Snake, and just as in previous iterations, it takes Ford's iconic pony car and manages to unleash hundreds of extra horses that the stock version has refused to let out of its stable. It looks the part too, gaining an aggressive body kit that makes Ford's Mustang Dark Horse look mundane.

The latest Super Snake offers a choice of two engine options, both of which using Ford's Coyote 5.0 liter V8 as a base. The first does little to move the needle, boasting the same 480 hp as the standard Mustang GT. The other option, however, bolts a 3.0 liter Whipple supercharger onto that V8 and sends more than 830 hp out to the wheels. Both powertrains are offered with either an automatic or a manual, and it's worth noting that the latter tacks on a short-throw shifter and a one-piece driveshaft.

Whether you choose to stick with the 480-hp rating or go all out with the supercharged version, the rest of the upgrades are the same for both powertrains. The suspension for the Super Snake has been completely revamped, the brakes are stronger, the cooling system has been upgraded, and the lightweight wheels help the pony car lose nine pounds for each wheel. Other weight-saving measures include the aluminum hood, widebody fenders clad in carbon fiber, new rocker panels, and a tweaked front fascia with extra intakes. There's also a new Borla exhaust to ensure that the V8's Coyote howl is heard for miles.

The cabin is nearly identical to the Mustang's, though Shelby has replaced the stock badges with its own set of logos. In addition, those who opt for the manual transmission will get to enjoy an exclusive Shelby gear shifter.

And while Super Snake coupes come with a towering rear wing, going for the convertible instead will eliminate that in favor of a sleeker ducktail-style spoiler.

"We designed the Shelby Super Snake to be the pinnacle of our performance cars based on Ford's world-class Mustang sports car," Joe Conway, Shelby American CEO. "It follows Carroll Shelby's vision that each generation of car improves the breed."

Pricing for the latest Super Snake is expected to be revealed closer to its summer release, though the company only plans to build 250 examples for the 2024 model year. So if you want to get your hands on one of these, you'd better hurry.

It's Shelby's first whack at the new S650 'Stang, and we're not disappointed.
