Toyota's venerable Land Cruiser badge has returned to U.S. shores, and now we know how much the rugged SUV will cost. The three-pronged trim lineup starts with the Land Cruiser 1958, which costs $55,950.
The Land Cruiser 1958 features a set of unique circular LED headlights up front, which serve as a tribute to Toyota's earliest Land Cruiser models. Standard equipment includes heated cloth seats, automatic climate control, a 7-inch display in front of the driver, an 8-inch display hosting the infotainment, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a smart key function, and a blind-spot monitoring system.
Climbing up to the next rung on the trim ladder will lead you to the mid-range Land Cruiser. Confusingly, this trim just goes by straight-up Land Cruiser, so in reality this is technically called the Land Cruiser Land Cruiser. Anyway, this model costs $61,950 before additional charges, and it upgrades to a more modern set of rectangular LED headlights up front. The upholstery inside now consists of faux leather, and both the instrument and infotainment displays grow to 12.3 inches. Elsewhere, buyers will get a power tailgate, 10-speaker sound system, and mechanical upgrades such as a Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism, a Multi-Terrain Select drive mode selector, and a Multi-Terrain Monitor camera system.
Opting for the Premium Package will allow buyers of the mid-level Land Cruiser to add extra niceties like ventilated leather seats, a 14-speaker sound system from JBL, a power moonroof, a digital rearview mirror, and a head-up display. This package will undoubtedly tack on an extra few dollars, but Toyota hasn't announced the exact price just yet.
Sitting at the top of the lineup is the First Edition. It combines the retro style of the entry-level 1958 with the luxurious amenities of the Premium Package for $74,950. That means you'll find all of the features listed above for the Land Cruiser with the Premium Package, along with exclusive 18-inch wheels, a roof rack, rock rails, a skid plate in front, and the usual smattering of “First Edition” badging.
No matter which Land Cruiser model you pick, it will be powered by a 2.4 liter i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, producing a combined 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque while delivering 23 mpg combined. Off-road essentials such as full-time all-wheel drive, locking center and rear differentials, a two-speed transfer case, a 2,400W AC inverter, and a Crawl Control mechanism all come as standard equipment.
The new Toyota Land Cruiser will begin arriving at dealers this spring, undercutting the previous Land Cruiser 200-series by as much as $30,000. However, it does cost considerably more than the $39,870 Ford Bronco and $31,995 Jeep Wrangler.
