The BMW 4-Series is getting a light refresh for the 2025 model year, with improvements mostly centered around the usual styling and powertrain updates. The brand is hoping you've gotten past that grille by now, as there are no changes in that respect. Besides, BMW has released far worse things since this generation 4-Series debuted for 2021.




Up front, you'll notice that the headlights have gained redesigned LED signatures, while the overall light assembly is now thinner. The taillights benefits from new internals as well, adopting the stunning "Laserlight" signatures that first debuted on the extreme M4 CSL. These lights, which get their eye-catching effect from illuminated glass fiber bundles, are standard on the more expensive M440i, but can also be had on the entry-level 430i as long as you opt for the Shadowline package.


The M440i model in particular receives a new pattern for the grille with horizontal thin horizontal bars running across, while the surrounding trim adds a high-gloss black finish. Elsewhere, there are two newly-available wheel designs, along with the addition of two new exterior colors: Vegas Red and the brand's beautiful Cape York Green.




Inside, all models receive a newly redesigned steering wheel, though a flat-bottomed version from BMW M is standard on the M440i and optional on the 430i. Regardless of which wheel you choose, it will have illuminated multifunction buttons and paddle shifters. The large curved display now incorporates iDrive 8.5, which now allows the driver to manage climate controls either via the screen or through voice commands. There's also a Live Cockpit Plus feature that uses augmented reality to lay information over live camera feed.



There are also some small changes under this BMW's sleek hood, where both the four- and six-cylinder engine options are now hooked up to a 48-volt hybrid system. As a result, the turbocharged 3.0 liter inline-six found in the M440i gains 11 extra horses and 34 more pound-feet of torque, raising total output to 386 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque.


Unfortunately, the 430i with its turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder does not benefit from any power gains, but the engine does add revised intake ports and combustion chambers, along with the ability to run on the Miller cycle for better fuel efficiency. Output is still rated at 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.


Both engines remain connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the xDrive all-wheel drive system can be added to either model for an extra $2,000.


Pricing has risen across the board for 2025, with the 430i Coupe starting things off at $51,695, while the 430i Convertible begins at $59,695. The more powerful M440i Coupe and Convertible now cost $65,245 and $73,245 respectively. The updated BMW 4-Series should arrive later in 2024, and we're expecting the four-door Gran Coupe version to gain similar changes very soon.
