The four-door BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe and its i4 electric counterpart are getting some slight revisions for the 2025 model year, including tweaked front end styling, a set of eye-catching new taillights, and the addition of mild-hybrid technology for the gas-powered Gran Coupe. Production of both models will begin in July.
Starting with that polarizing kidney grille, BMW hasn't gotten rid of it completely, but the underlying design within the frame has been changed. On the i4, the top half of the grille is now closed to better direct airflow specifically to its electric powertrain.
As for the rest of the exterior, the four-door 4-Series models get the same set of revised headlights and cool 3D-effect taillights as the rest of the lineup, and the front DRLs welcome the driver with an animation when the key fob is within 10 feet of the vehicle. To finish things off, the rear diffuser on models with the M Sport package now comes in gloss black.
Stepping inside, both models jump to BMW's latest iDrive 8.5 infotainment. Unfortunately, that means the buttons for the climate control, heated seats, and heated steering wheel are no longer found on the center stack, as they are now controlled solely from the touchscreen. Aside from the updated tech, the new i4 and Gran Coupe offer a few new cabin materials, including two open-pore wood options and a brushed aluminum finish.
The changes aren't as obvious under the hood, though the 430i Gran Coupe bolts on a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to go with its 2.0 liter turbo-four. Interestingly, the sedan continues to make the same 255 hp as last year. Fortunately, the higher-end M440i with its 3.0 liter turbocharged inline-six does show some power gains, with its new hybrid system adding an extra 11 ponies. That brings the total up to 386 hp.
BMW has also given the i4 a new plug-and-charge system that allows the driver to pay for up to five different public charging networks directly from their car.
Pricing should be released rather soon, as the 2025 i4 and 4-Series Gran Coupe will begin assembly this July.
