After watching Toyota Supra fans go nuts over the sports car gaining a manual option for 2023, BMW has caved to similar pressure for its mechanically-related Z4. That's right, BMW is finally letting customers of its splendid little roadster shift it themselves for the 2025 model year.

While the news was already confirmed late last year, we now know that the six-speed manual will come as part of a new $3,500 package known as "Handschalter," which is German for "hand shift." Good one, BMW. The manual-equipped Z4 also offers an exclusive new color called San Remo Green, as well as a special Frozen Deep Green Metallic color from BMW Individual, which tacks on an extra $2,950.

The Handschalter package is strictly available on the more expensive M40i model, which features a 3.0 liter inline-six under the hood. That means buyers of the less powerful turbo-four version will continue to make do with an automatic transmission only.

The 2025 BMW Z4, manual and all, will begin shipping in March 2024, with exact pricing to be announced soon.
