While the days of gas-powered sedans seem to be numbered over at GM, Cadillac is giving its CT5 luxury sedan a well-rounded refresh before it likely gives way to a plug-in successor. Set to go on sale in spring 2024, the CT5 has made its public debut at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show, featuring a stylish new face and vast improvements to its interior.
The changes are mostly exclusive to the front end, where the main headlights have been moved downward, and are surrounded by slim new DRLs inspired by the latest XT4 crossover. The new lighting units are visually connected to the new vertical intakes, which reach all the way down to the bumper. The look is further elevated with the CT5 Sport trim, which adds black trim pieces and a dark mesh pattern to the grille. While the remainder of the exterior has been virtually untouched, the CT5 does add two new paint colors, with Deep Space Metallic and Typhoon Metallic joining the palette for 2025.
While the CT5's updated exterior is sure to turn more heads, the real sore point in the old CT5 was its outdated, cheap-feeling cabin. Fortunately, this has been fully addressed for the 2025 model, as it gains an expansive new 33-inch curved display that mirrors those found in the latest XT4, Lyriq, and Escalade SUVs. Cadillac says both sides of the display support touchscreen functionality, and the updated infotainment system will feature new Google built-in apps and an Amazon Alexa voice assistant. Aside from the large new display, the new CT5 also gains an optional 5G Wi-Fi hotspot. Another notable addition is GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving tech, which joins the sedan's longer list of standard driver-assistance features.
Powertrains remain exactly the same as before, with a turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder still serving as the base engine. This setup delivers 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, while more power can be had with the CT5's available 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6, which produces 335 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. Both powertrains send power to the wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission, while buyers can upgrade from standard rear-wheel drive to optional all-wheel drive.
Production of the 2025 CT5 is expected to kick off in spring 2024 at GM's Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan, with pricing set to be announced close to launch. As for the sportier CT5-V and CT5-V Blackwing, Cadillac promises that refreshed versions will be unveiled later on.
