Chevrolet has revealed refreshed versions of its Tahoe and Suburban fullsize SUVs, though they won't be arriving until the later end of 2024. The changes are extensive but welcome, ranging from updated exterior styling to long-overdue upgrades to the cabin, along with improvements to the powertrains.
On the outside, the Tahoe and Suburban receive a new look that mirrors the redesigned Traverse. The two SUVs gain a new split headlight design up front, flanking a larger and squarer grille. Chevy says that more expensive models gain animations for the turn signals, along with approach and departure sequences. Elsewhere, wheel sizes grow to include a newly-optional set of 24-inch wheels, the taillights finally gain LED technology, and the exterior color palette expands to include Cypress Gray and Lakeshore Blue Metallic.
More exciting changes take place inside, as the previous model's outdated cabin drew many compaints. Gone is the old tablet-style, 10.2-inch touchscreen, which has been replaced by a classier pair of connected displays that include an 11-inch digital gauge cluster and a huge 17.7-inch infotainment system.
In fact, the entire dashboard has been remolded for a look that better reflects the hefty price tags demanded by these SUVs. There's a more premium-looking steering wheel ahead of the driver, and Chevy says the gauge cluster is now positioned lower. There's also a wider center stack with simplified controls, along with relocated air vents and a revamped center console.
The top of the trim lineup takes full advantage of the overhauled cabin, with High Country variants adding authentic wood trim for the first time. This model also features a two-tone color scheme, perforated leather seats, and a multitude of other niceties.
Powertrains benefit from changes as well, with the SUV's 3.0 liter Duramax turbodiesel inline-six receiving enough changes for Chevy to call it a second-generation engine. Output has been bumped up to 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque, and among the mechanical changes is an upgraded air induction system paired with additional sound absorption, enabling a quieter and more refined ride. The Duramax won't be available until well into 2025, but when it does begin appearing on the updated SUVs, buyers will be able to select it on the more rugged Z71 model.
The rest of the engine lineup, which includes a pair of 5.3 and 6.2 liter V8s, seems to go on unchanged. This means that their outputs are likely to stay at 355 and 420 hp, respectively.
Engineers also tweaked the driving dynamics, making for a more refined ride from the updated multi-link rear suspension, along with some additional changes to steering. Elsewhere, RST variants are now available with an adaptive air suspension, and the SUVs also gain Magnetic Ride Control and Super Cruise hands-free driving for the first time.
There's an expansive suite of driver-assistance features as well, with a few additions to the list that focus on interior safety. The first of which is what Chevy calls Interior Motion Detection, which utilizes a sensor to alert the driver of any movements inside the vehicle, especially when it is turned off and set in park. The newly-optional Connected Cameras feature carries on the same theme, allowing the driver to view camera footage from both the exterior and interior remotely. The system includes Live View and Security Recording, and can also serve as a dashcam to automatically record crashes, not unlike Tesla's Sentry Mode.
Pricing for the 2025 Tahoe and Suburban should be announced closer to their late 2024 on-sale date. Note that the current versions of those SUVs begin at a respective $56,200 and $59,200.
