It seems that the "clown shoe" BMW Z3 M Coupe has returned for modern times, with the debut of the Concept Touring Coupe. It's essentially a Z4 but with a more elegant shooting brake body style, along with a few bespoke touches inside and out. BMW says this concept is intended for one-off production, and will not translate into a true production model to accompany the Z4 convertible.

The Z4's rather long front end has been paired with muscular new bodywork in the rear, including a smooth new roofline and flared rear fenders. The concept's window line features the iconic Hoffmeister kink with an exaggerated chrome outline, while the small rear window sits flush with the dynamic lines. A vertically-slatted grille finishes off the bespoke look in front, while the majority of the exterior details gain silver-bronze accents. The 20-spoke alloy wheels are finished in that same silver-bronze color, but are staggered with 19-inch wheels in front and 20-inch units in back.

Since the Concept Touring Coupe is making its debut at the 2023 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, which overlooks the beautiful Lake Como in Cernibbio, Italy, the cabin must be suitably luxurious. There are obvious Italian touches in this otherwise German interior, including a brown and black leather scheme from Poltrona Frau, which divides the two colors evenly throughout the cabin. The top half consists of darker leather, while the bottom half features a warm shade of light saddle brown. But in order to truly fit in with the storied Italian automakers, this BMW comes with an interior-matching luggage set from Schedoni. Based in Modena, the company is known for making luggages crafted specifically for Italian exotics.

The BMW Concept Touring Coupe is said to have a six-cylinder engine under the hood, which implies that the Z4's 3.0 liter B58 turbo-six has been carried over.
