Infiniti has chosen Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance to showcase its evolved design philosophy, in the form of the QX Monograph concept. Taking the shape of a commanding fullsize SUV, it offers a preview of the design of the next-generation QX80, which is due for the 2025 model year.
The concept's bold design begins with the prominent front end, which is dominated by an upright double-arched grille. It features diagonal bars that lean in the direction of Infiniti's updated "infinite road" emblem, flowing into the high-mounted "piano key" daytime running lights that run above the grille and into the slim front lighting units. The actual headlights are mounted just below, tucked into intakes that flank the large grille. The same "piano key" theme continues around back, where the QX Monograph flaunts chunky full-width taillights that narrow out as they reach the center. The depth effect from the taillights further echoes the three-dimensional look of the new illuminated logo, with each taillight section featuring a solid block that's underlined by a section made of thin horizontal stripes. The concept's lighting elements also feature integrated approach and departure animations, which highlights the increased focus on premium tech in the next QX80.
Along the sides, the QX Monograph flaunts an elegant profile with soft lines, large-diameter wheels, and a high beltine that extends from the tall hood to create a smooth shadow effect below the windowline. The concept follows Infiniti's latest QX60 crossover in featuring a floating roof, which looks especially clean with the flush windows and beveled trim piece between the C- and D-pillars. The QX Monograph also has a fully functional, bamboo-inspired intake on the front fender, which serves as a nod to the company's Japanese heritage.
The QX Monograph's simple yet sharp lines are highlighted by the concept's unique paint, which varies in tone depending on the lighting. Infiniti calls it "Akane," and it's a shade of warm silver consisting of six sunset-inspired hues. At times, the vehicle reflects a shade of muted purple, while darker conditions bring out a color more akin to a grayish-blue. The concept's dark color theme is further emphasized by its machine-finished alloy wheels, which feature a shadow chrome and gloss black finish with red accents on the spokes, along with "Monograph" badging in gold.
Infiniti didn't mention anything related to the interior or powertrains, as the QX Monograph is only meant to focus on the brand's design direction. Those topics will be reserved for the production QX80, which will likely boast huge upgrades in terms of luxury and tech, and is said to feature a twin-turbo V6 engine under its large clamshell hood.
