Shortly after rumors began swirling regarding the addition of a V8 engine option for the Koenigsegg Gemera, the Swedish automaker has officially unveiled the four-seat, two-door supercar in final production form. Not only is there a newly optional 2,300-hp V8 as indicated by rumors, but the standard powertrain has undergone immense changes as well.
Koenigsegg has added an all-new electric motor setup called "Dark Matter," which produces 800 hp and 922 lb-ft of torque. With all that power coming solely from the motor, the Gemera has ditched its original plan to incorporate a three-cylinder engine with three electric motors. Instead, that same three-cylinder is now paired with a single Dark Matter electric motor, making 1,400 hp and 1,364 lb-ft of torque. While that's a tad less output than initially planned, Koenigsegg says the reduction in weight resulting from the loss of two motors allows for quicker acceleration. Another upside is that the updated powertrain continues to have all-wheel drive and four-wheel torque vectoring.
As for the Gemera's rumored V8, Koenigsegg's official statement confirms most of what we previously heard. The V8 option indeed makes a total of 2,300 horsepower, although it also uses the new Dark Matter electric motor instead of the old three-motor setup. Koenigsegg refers to this powertrain as the HV8, which stands for Hot V8. The brand has also confirmed allegations that the Gemera will now incorporate the Light Speed Transmission from the CC850. Koenigsegg hasn't yet mentioned whether the HV8 will come at any additional cost, but recent rumors pointed to a hefty $400,000 asking price.
Along with the production-spec Gemera, Koenigsegg has also announced an expansion to its factory. The new expansion, referred to as Gripen Atelier, adds just over 2 acres of space to the automaker's facility. The additional space will mostly be used to develop, produce, and showcase the Gemera along with other future models. In fact, this is where the Gemera will officially enter production late next year, with the first customer deliveries beginning in 2025.
