The Koenigsegg Gemera already packs wild performance, but a new V8 powertrain for the four-seater supercar looks to turn things up another notch. A new report suggests that the Swedish supercar will offer a V8 hybrid engine option at launch, bolting on an additional $400,000 to its hefty $1.7 million price tag.
When Koenigsegg first announced the crazy four-seater Gemera, it came with a 2.0 liter twin-turbocarged three-cylinder engine paired with a trio of electric motors, producing a whopping 1,700 horsepower.
The Gemera's optional V8 will deliver even more power than its standard powertrain, producing up to 2,300 hp. Reports also suggest that the V8 will be borrowed from the Jesko, which is equipped with a 5.0 twin-turbocharged engine. The version found in the Jesko makes 1,578 horsepower on E85 fuel, though the V8 in the Gemera will reach its promised output of over 2,000 hp through its three electric motors. The second powertrain will send its combined output to the wheels through Koenigsegg's nine-speed Light Speed Transmission, which was first found on the CC850.
The Gemera's original three-cylinder engine will still be offered at no extra cost, for those who aren't willing to spend the additional $400,000 the V8 powertrain demands. It remains to be seen how the larger hybrid V8 will manage to fit into the small space that occupies the three-cylinder powertrain, though the adjustments required to fit the V8 may partly explain the option's steep pricing.
The same report alleges that the production Gemera will meet U.S. regulations by adding physical side mirrors, as opposed to the camera-based setup seen on earlier versions. The four-seater will also offer a "Ghost Package," which adds a rear wing, larger front splitter, and an S-duct to improve aerodynamics. The package also deletes the Gemera's front trunk in the name of performance.
While the Gemera was supposed to reach its first customers this year, deliveries of the four-seater have been pushed back to 2025.
