Lamborghini has been enjoying record sales and profits as of late, which can be attributed to the wide popularity of the Urus SUV. With 5,367 of last year's record-smashing 9,233 delivieries representing the Urus, these high profits lend the Italian marque enough money to produce its next "baby" supercar completely on its own this time around. While its Gallardo and Huracan predecessors split the costs with the respective first- and second-generations of the Audi R8, there's no longer a need for the V10-powered Audi.
Without the Audi R8, Asia-Pacific region director Francesco Scardaoni told Drive that the Lamborghini Huracan successor is free of compromises, and it is being developed on a completely new platform specifically made for the new supercar. While another new vehicle from Volkswagen Group using the platform hasn't been ruled out, the hardware is being made for Lamborghini first.

With Lamborghini Huracan orders now permanently closed, the wait begins for its replacement. Not much has been revealed regarding the next supercar, except that it's due around late 2024 and will be jumping the engine-downsizing bandwagon. This means it will be losing its naturally aspirated V10, in favor of a plug-in hybrid system that will reportedly be latched onto a twin-turbo V8. This follows the lead of the latest flagship Revuelto, which uses hybrid power alongside a larger V12 engine. Rumors also suggest that the Huracan's replacement will borrow the Revuelto's eight-speed DCT transmission.
The hybridized successor to the Huracan isn't the only electrified Lamborghini we'll be seeing next year, as the company has been spotted testing prototypes of a hybrid Urus set to arrive in 2024. The brand's first fully electric model won't appear until 2028, in the form of a 2+2 grand tourer. An EV successor to the Urus is expected to make its debut around that time as well.
