Maserati has taken the wraps off its new GranCabrio, which returns after a short hiatus and will go on sale soon to join the latest GranTurismo coupe. Things are limited to the Trofeo trim for now, though this version with its melodious Nettuno V6 engine will eventually be accompanied by a fully-electric Folgore model.

Just like its predecessor, the new GranCabrio features a 2+2 seating layout under a fabric roof, which can retract in just 14.1 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph. Controls for the roof are found within the infotainment, and the driver simply has to swipe either left or right to control it. The thermal- and sound-insulated top is available in a multitude of colors, including black, dark blue, dark red, and two distinct shades of gray. These are available with six different color options for the bodywork: Blu Modena, Nero Assoluto, Bianco Astro, Grigio Incognito, Grigio Maratea Matte, and a fetching metallic green that Maserati refuses to name as of this writing.

The GranCabrio comes with standard neck warmers for both the driver and front passenger seats, which should come in handy when the roof is down on chilly evenings. And to prevent that unpleasant wind buffeting at high speeds, there is also an optional wind-stopper that can be mounted behind the seats.

The interior is practically identical to that of the GranTurismo, with a trio of displays consisting of a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the driver, a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the main infotainment, and an 8.8-inch touchscreen hosting the climate controls. There's also a head-up display available on the options list. The standard sound system is a 13-speaker setup from Sonus Faber, though there's an optional 16-speaker version as well.

Currently, the only powertrain available is the twin-turbo 3.0 liter Nettuno V6 engine, though a cheaper, less powerful model will become available later on, along with a fully electric Folgore variant. But until then, this version of the Nettuno available on the Trofeo trim is tuned to make 542 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, sending that power to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The GranCabrio Trofeo can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 196 mph, but due to the extra 220 lbs added by the convertible configuration, the GranTurismo coupe manages to beat these metrics.

While Maserati hasn't confirmed anything about the other two models, the less powerful gas model is expected to make 483 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque from its watered-down V6 engine. Meanwhile, the all-electric GranCabrio Folgore will very likely borrow its tri-motor setup from the GranTurismo Folgore, which means it could deliver as much as 751 hp.

Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but we expect the GranCabrio to cost a bit more than the GranTurismo coupe. Deliveries are slated to begin later this year.
