It seems that two more sedans are on their way out, both of them being from Nissan. According to a future product timeline from Automotive News––an outlet known for fetching exclusive info from various insider sources––both the Altima and the smaller Versa will no longer be available after the 2025 model year. Meanwhile, a new, fully electric sedan is set to arrive in 2026 to replace them both.

While Nissan hasn't confirmed any of this, the death of more sedans comes as no surprise. And while the demise of the Versa, which only sold 13,396 for the entirety of 2022, is plausible, the Altima was Nissan's second best-selling model in 2022, with a total of 139,955 units sold. The only Nissan to top that number was the Rogue crossover, which sold a whopping 186,480 units, which means the Altima outsold the Pathfinder, Frontier, and Kicks––all of which being decent sellers. Killing off a popular model like the Altima doesn't make much sense, so Nissan really must be betting on that new electric sedan to take its place.

While the Versa is on track to eclipse its dismal 2022 sales, with 11,014 units sold in the first half of 2023, that number still pales in comparison to the six-figure sales charts for the Altima. Despite being among the most affordable new cars on sale today, the subcompact segment in which it competes has been declining rapidly in recent years. Kia announced plans to axe the Rio after the 2023 model year, while rumors point to Mitsubishi retiring the budget-friendly Mirage around the same time as the Versa.

Nissan might be cleaning out its sedan stable, but there are plenty of other new models coming soon. A recent dealer convention saw the brand quietly preview redesigned versions of the Armada, Murano, and Kicks SUVs, along with several upcoming EVs. But for those who are still looking to pick up the keys for a new Altima or Versa, both sedans still have at least three years left on showroom floors.
