From the second that the latest Nissan Z sports car broke cover, the clock has been ticking for an even sportier Nismo variant directed straight at enthusiasts. A couple years later, we finally have it, with the first examples slated to begin appearing on dealer lots this fall. The latest and greatest Z Nismo boasts improved aerodynamics as its main highlight, though power and looks get some upgrades as well.
The 2024 Nissan Z Nismo squeezes 20 more horsepower and 34 more lb-ft of torque out of the same 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged V6 that powers the regular model, thanks to improved cooling, additional boost, and some extra tuning. In total, the Nismo produces 420 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. Sending that power to the rear wheels is a Nismo-tuned nine-speed automatic transmission, as Nissan has unfortunately ruled out the six-speed manual that comes standard on regular Z models. However, Nissan argues that the exclusive automatic cuts downshift times in half thanks to new engine management software. The Nismo's Sport+ mode also improves shifting with racetrack tuning, and there's also a new launch control system.
One of the biggest advantages the Nismo has over its regular Z counterpart is its vastly improved aerodynamics, something Nissan calls "positive downforce." Up front, the Nismo gets a new face inspired by the Fairlady 240ZG, with changes that include a reworked front bumper and a larger front splitter flanked by canards at the corners of the bumper. Revised sills and a new rear bumper improve drag along the sides and rear, and there's also a new rear lip spoiler that wraps around to the fenders.
The Nismo treatment for the Z also adds handling upgrades, with upgraded stabilizer bars, enlarged dampers, and stiffer springs. The sporter Z also gets more underfloor bracing in the front and rear, along with extra stiffening for the front and rear suspension and steering rack mounting bushings. Riding on lighter and wider Rays 19-inch wheels finished in gloss black, the Z Nismo comes with standard Dunlop SP Sport MAXX GT600 tires.
To go along with its upgraded looks, the Z Nismo is available in several exterior colors, including Black Diamond Pearl, Brilliant Silver, Passion Red, Everest White Pearl, and Stealth Grey. Inside, the sports car features leather and Alcantara materials on the Recaro seats and steering wheel. There also also exclusive red accents for the drive mode and start/stop buttons, along with unique graphics on the digital instrument cluster.
Pricing should be revealed closer to the Z Nismo's launch this fall, but with the most expensive 2023 models coming in at just over $50,000, the Nismo won't exactly be affordable.
