The first battery-powered model to grace Range Rover's opulent lineup is inching towards its debut next year, and those who have the means to afford one can jump onto the company's initial waiting list. Aside from the empty engine bay, the electric SUV won't stray far from the gas and hybrid variants that already adorn the sprawling driveways of the well-heeled.


Styling is expected to be identical, save for the charging port, and the EV will even share its platform with the gas-powered model. The latter doesn't come as much of a surprise, as the latest Range Rover is underpinned by JLR's MLA Flex architecure, which can accomodate both gas and electric powertrains.



The electric Range Rover will feature an 800-volt electric architecture with fast charging in mind, though exact details regarding range and charging estimates remain under wraps.


Range Rover claims that prototypes have entered their harsh testing phase, which includes enduring journeys through extreme heat and bitter cold temperatures, and the EV is capable of wading through up to 33.4 inches of water. While two inches short of the gas model, that's still an impressive figure for a battery-powered car.



The all-electric Range Rover will be revealed in full sometime next year, hitting the market for the 2025 model year. Eager customers with deep pockets can be among the first to pre-order their vehicle if they join the brand's waiting list now. When it launches, the electric Range Rover will be assembled alongside the gas version at the company's Solihill, U.K. plant, and its electric components will be put together in Wolverhampton, U.K.
