Toyota has made a huge presence at this year's Japan Mobility Show, debuting a slew of concepts that include the Land Cruiser Se, the Ford Maverick-sized EPU pickup, and the FT-Se sports car. Last but not least, the automaker has presented the FT-3e concept, which previews a compact crossover that uses Toyota's next-generation EV technology.

On the outside, the FT-3e bears a bit of resemblance with the bZ4X crossover that currently occupies Toyota showrooms, while also borrowing cues from the recent Land Cruiser Se concept. A clean, grille-less front end is met with sharp lines throughout the bodywork, rounded out by slender lighting and an aerodynamic profile.

Aside from styling itself, the concept's exterior stands out for having external displays, which are mounted flushly on each front fender and display battery information and climate controls for the cabin.

Moving inside, Toyota clearly went for a minimalistic look, with three separate displays housing the bulk of the controls surrounding a simple, single-spoke steering wheel. While the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster appear to be similar to those found on production Toyota models, the FT-3e also features two smartphone-sized displays flanking the steering wheel. The screen on the left serves as an electronic shifter, while the one on the right displays the vehicle's media controls.

Toyota didn't provide any powertrain specs, which means the FT-3e is only a design concept for now. Nonetheless, the brand's onslaught of battery-powered concepts shown at the Japan Mobility Show display the great potential for a diverse lineup in the future.
