The Toyota Land Cruiser is about to return to U.S. shores after a short hiatus, and the latest teasers from the automaker further cement rumors that this isn't the 300-series model on sale in other markets. Instead, the SUV's dark silhouette reveals a windowline identical to the latest Lexus GX, which confirms previous allegations that the American Land Cruiser will indeed be based on the Lexus off-roader.
While the similarities stand out the most, there are still some differences separating the Land Cruiser from its Lexus counterpart, including the visible absence of a roof spoiler and Toyota-specific front and rear fascias. Rumor has it that powertrains won't be fully shared either, with leaked documents suggesting a powertrain lineup consisting solely of four-cylinder engines. This means the new twin-turbo V6 found in the GX will be a Lexus-only affair.
A U.S. market launch is rumored to happen sometime next year, which means a reveal shouldn't be too far off. It's also worth noting that the new Land Cruiser model will also be shipped to markets outside of the U.S., where it will replace the aging current generation of the Land Cruiser Prado.
Are you excited to get a new Land Cruiser, or do you still wish we got the 300-series?
