VinFast's VF8 electric crossover has been a flop to say the least, but the Vietnamese automaker won't let that stop it from continuing its hasty U.S. expansion. Shortly after the groundbreaking of a new production facility in North Carolina, along with a swift Nasdaq debut earlier in August, VinFast has now announced official specs for its next battery-powered SUV, the three-row VF9. Deliveries are set to begin as early as Q4 2023.

Just like its smaller VF8 sibling, the VF9 is priced very ambitiously. Things open up at a hefty $83,000 for the entry-level Eco, which returns up to 330 miles of range. Things get even pricier when opting for the VF9 Plus, which begins at $91,000. While this adds more luxurious furnishings, range drops to a mediocre 291 miles. Both models feature a 123 kWh battery, which propels a dual-motor powertrain capable of generating 402 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque.

Full equipment details will be released later on, but for now, we know that the VF9 Eco will come standard with a leatherette interior, dual-zone climate control, a 13-speaker sound system, and a large 15.6-inch infotainment display. The Eco also comes with 20-inch wheels, though the Plus is equipped with standard 21-inch ones and can be upgraded to optional 22-inch units. The Plus also adds "vegan leather" upholstery, upgraded front seats, tri-zone climate control, a panoramic glass roof, an 8-inch rear display, and available captain's chairs in the second row.

When it officially launches later this year, the VF9 will compete in a rather small segment of electric three-row SUVs, which is currently limited to the Tesla Model X, Rivian R1S, and Mercedes EQS SUV. It remains to be seen how VinFast's next jab at the American market holds up, and whether it's learned from the mistakes made in the VF8.
