5 Luxury Cars With The Biggest Screens

These days, automakers are all about the screens, what they can do, how they look, and of course, which one is the biggest. Most of these high-tech cars are electric, as you'd expect, since the silence of EVs leaves technology as one of their main attractions. At this point, we're waiting for these gargantuan screens to go mainstream, which might not be far away.

1. Mercedes EQS

Now that Mercedes has revealed the EQS flagship EV and its monstrous Hyperscreen, pretty much no one can beat them. Not even Tesla, well, at the time of this writing...they'll probably catch up soon. The EQS's screen takes up the entire dashboard, including a large center display with the bulk of the many features that Mercedes offers through the Hyperscreen, a wide front passenger display for even more entertainment (it's 2021, the extra screens aren't limited to the backseat anymore), and a slightly smaller digital instrument cluster. All three screens are unified under a thin glass panel, which creates a whopping 56-inch display.

2. BMW iX

BMW's latest flagship vehicle is all-electric, and it indeed has the screens to match it's...futuristic design. BMW gave the iX a very simplistic dashboard with some geometric flare, but the star of the show is its horizontal 27.2-inch display that houses both the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with an all-new 14.9-inch iDrive touchscreen infotainment system. BMW plans to add this screen to most of its lineup starting with facelifted versions of the 3 Series, X5, X6, and X7.

3. Tesla Model S / Model X

Tesla updated the Model S and Model X EVs for the 2021 model, and though the changes appear light on the outside, it's what's inside that counts. Both models ditch the vertical screen dating back to 2012, replacing it with a new display that sticks out of the dashboard like the Model 3. But, it is still a bit different. In fact, it measures up to 17 inches, which is two inches bigger than the Model 3's display. It also adds features like a digital gear shift and gas-powered engine noises that the Model 3 does not offer. Not yet, at least.

4. Tesla Model 3 / Model Y

Next up is the Tesla Model 3 and its SUV counterpart, the Model Y. Both vehicles feature a 15-inch display that houses almost all of the controls and amenities, including the gauges. That's something you can't claim with the Model S and Model X, since they have separate displays in front of the driver. The Model 3 revolutionized car interiors when it came out in 2017, as most automakers offered nothing like it at the time, but it seems that various luxury brands and EV startups are catching up.

5. Mercedes S-Class / C-Class

Mercedes looks to copy Tesla and BMW with its almost-identical interiors throughout the lineup, starting with its revolutionary (until the EQS was revealed) 12.8-inch MBUX touchscreen display. The screen appears to lean on the dashboard, until it curves into the center console. Both models also have a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and transparent head-up display, but these systems are separate from the main display. The EQS offers this dash layout too, but you'll have to opt for the base version to avoid the high-tech Hyperscreen.

What do you think of all of these large displays?
