After a lot of leaks and spy shots, BMW finally unveiled the new 5 Series. It includes hybrid tech, an updated exterior, and a refreshed touchscreen. Thankfully, BMW didn't fit it with a huge grille, but that could change in the next generation.
The headlights are slimmer, and the grille is sharper, also resembling the smaller 3 Series. There is a new lower grille as well. The headlights wear a more complex illuminated design.
The models shown here are the 530e in white and the 540i in blue. The 530e and 530e xDrive PHEV are new additions to the 5 Series lineup. There are four engine options. The base models, which are the 530i and 530i xDrive, come with a turbocharged four cylinder, while the mid-range trims, the 540i and 540i xDrive, have an inline-six engine. It 540i has a new 48 volt mild-hybrid system. The M550i xDrive is positioned just below the upcoming M5 facelift, and it carries a 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 engine.
The 530e lineup features the brand's new eDrive technology. Inside, the new 5 receives many technology upgrades, including a standard Live Cockpit Professional with iDrive 7. The infotainment system measures 12.3 inches, while the digital instrument cluster also stretches 12.3 inches. The 5 Series now includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The base models starts at $54,200. They are available for orders beginning this month, with the first deliveries arriving as soon as July.
