We reported earlier this year that the city of Ann Arbor, Michigan ordered several police cars based on the new Mustang Mach E electric crossover. Ford has revealed those police interceptors ahead of 2022 model year testing that will be conducted by Michigan's state police.
The Mach E police interceptor is based on the range-topping GT trim level, which packs twice the amount of horsepower compared to the lesser variants. This police car is also painted in a unique blue paint, and has been wrapped in a black and white livery that says Police in a large font. As we said before, this Ford Mustang Mach E interceptor will be tested at the Michigan State Police 2022 Model Year Police Evaluation today, September 18th, and on the 20th.
Ford says they will continue to explore opportunities with "purpose-built" electric cars in the future, and use these pilot program tests with those developments. A concept prototype of the Mustang Mach E police interceptor has been shown in the UK, giving officers there a sneak peek at what's to come. Expect the Mach E to start hunting down speeders by the beginning of 2022.
