Originally, the world was going to be able to see and learn about the reborn Hummer this May, but it looks like it will be awhile. Also, it's kind of obvious what stopped this event. This isn't definite, since this was not fully confirmed. GM is still deciding whether they should cancel the unveiling or not. If it were to be officially canceled, GM would have to live-stream the reveal, or hold the event at a later date.
At this point, it could have a large chance of being canceled, since COVID-19 forced the company to send all employees home. In that case, General Motors hasn't been able to manufacture any prototypes. That is one reason why it hasn't been spied.
The Hummer will be available as a pickup and SUV, in order to directly compete with Rivian's R1S and R1T. It will run on GM's latest modular EV platform, with an 'Ultium' battery pack, along with other future models like the Cadillac Lyriq and next generation Chevy Bolt EV. The GMC Hummer will join the rapidly growing EV pickup segment, which will include the F-150 EV, Silverado EV, Rivian R1S, Tesla Cybertruck, Bollinger B2, Atlis XT, Karma EREV and Lordstown Endurance.
It will have 1,000 horsepower, and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. It will fit into the full-size segment, and will be priced near $100,000. A legendary truck deserves the best reveal it can get, and we hope it can, whether or not it is canceled.
