Jaguar's Sedans Are Looking At Uncertain Futures

As we all know, JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) is dealing with financial troubles. Jaguar's effort to increase sales comes with sacrifices. The XE compact sedan is now discontinued in the US, and the upcoming XJ EV has been delayed. Jaguar was always up to date with strong competitors like Mercedes and Audi, but their sedan lineup, although brand-new for 2021, is not enough.

Jaguar's sales boss even said that their sedans face 'difficult futures'. "The XE and XF are a key part of our range for now," he said. "The cars are better than they've ever been. We're looking at how the marketplace is evolving as we go into the future. While it's a challenging market, [sedans] are a very important product for us. We need to look at the lifetime benefit not only for us but also retailers. The XE and XF are really strong used cars."

A second-generation XE is very possible, but a US arrival is not likely. A new XF doesn't look like it'll happen at all. If both sedans don't make it to their next generations, at least in the US, a single midsize sedan could replace them with hybrid and PHEV variants. Another option would be a premium hatchback.

If Jaguar drops the XF at some point, we'll still have the all-electric XJ to rival the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, and Lucid Air.
