It's the new trend for most automakers, that is, adding an electric variant to their most popular model. That's the case with Jeep, as they not only add a new 4xe PHEV variant, but they have just teased an all-electric Wrangler. They said, "we plan to reveal a 100% battery-powered Wrangler BEV concept vehicle as part of the Jeep Brand concept vehicles at the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah."
This electric Wrangler is the beginning of a new era for Jeep, as they have enthusiastically stated, "as we celebrate Jeep's 80th anniversary this year and look to the future,[...]we are proudly building on our rich heritage as we commit to making Jeep the greenest SUV brand. All Jeep models will carry an electrified option in the next few years and will take green and 4x4 technology to the next level."
Jeep hasn't revealed much else on the matter, but we are guessing that Jeep will place the electric motors so that they deliver full performance to match (or even surpass) the famed off-road capability of the gas-powered Wrangler. Jeep's Easter Moab Safari event will reveal a few more 'concepts' as well. We think that, according to what happened with the Wrangler 392, these concepts are really show cars, and production should begin soon after. That means that you could probably buy an all-electric Wrangler in mid- to late-2021 or early 2022.
The new Wrangler EV doesn't even have a name yet, at least publicly, so we probably will hear a lot more from Jeep about this soon.
