A while back, a company called Electric Brands released a series of renderings that showed a miniature electric van called the eBussy. Now, the German business has revealed a working prototype called the XBUS.
It measures just 143.3" by 63" by 73.4". This XBUS is so small, it is considered an L7e-B2 class quadricycle. But, thanks to its EV architecture with a battery pack under the floor and no hood, the XBUS can seat up to four people and their valuables in its tiny cabin. The fun continues with the all-star features that are standard on this supermini. The XBUS is so unique because it can transform into ten different interchangeable bodies: passenger van, camper van, pickup, wagon pickup, convertible, box van, and panel van. The camper van has the ability to enlarge its roof and rear panel in order to fit its double bed. An off-road oriented variant can be opted for on all XBUS models, and it adds more ground clearance and all-terrain tires.
The XBUS doesn't end there. It features a modern cockpit with a touchscreen infotainment system on top of the dashboard, button gear selectors positioned on the old-fashioned steering wheel, two speakers, a few USB charging ports, and wood accents on black upholstery. The XBUS has a small 10 kWh battery that allows 124 miles of range, but a much more powerful 30 kWh battery pack with 373 miles of range is offered as an option. Solar modules are also available to give the XBUS an extra boost of power.
The XBUS also has an advanced electric four-wheel-drive system that includes four hub motors that can produce from 20 to 75 horsepower. This small figure is hidden by 738 pound-feet of torque, which beats many vehicles that are much larger than the XBUS. It can also carry a very impressive 2,204 pounds, which is about two times as much as its own weight of 1,322 pounds.
The cute yet functional design, a spacious and simplistic interior, and the all-wheel drive system make the XBUS a winner for anyone interested in an all-electric adventure-ready vehicle that comes in a small (in some ways) package. The XBUS starts at 18,070 euros ($21,431), topping out at a pricey 32,370 euros ($38,392). Electric Brands offers an immersive online configurator, which allows you to build a custom XBUS light commercial vehicle that tailors to your needs. Production will start in Q2 or Q3 of 2022 in Itzehoe, Germany, if the XBUS makes it to production.
