At Monterey Car Week this year, Polestar announced that the O2 concept would enter production in 2026 as the Polestar 6, with order books for the LA Concept launch edition opening shortly after. But within just a week, all 500 units are now spoken for.
“The high interest from our customers shows that a stunning electric roadster like Polestar 6 has high relevance in the sports car arena,” said Polestar CEO Thomac Ingenlath. “The open-top-plus-electric combination is clearly one that appeals to even the most die-hard petrolheads.”
For those who don't know, the LA Concept will be a limited-production launch edition for the upcoming Polestar 6, and is limited to only 500 units. Polestar says it will take styling cues from the original O2 concept car, including its pale blue paint and light-colored upholstery. Even though the LA Concept has been sold out, any other interested customers will be able to reserve the regular 6 starting next month. It will begin production after all 500 LA Concept examples have been built.
Adding the Polestar 6 to its future lineup will help Polestar grow faster than most other startups, with four new EVs planned for the next five years. Leading the onslaught will be the brand's first crossover, the Polestar 3, which is to be fully unveiled in October. A crossover coupe called the 4 will debut in 2023, with the Polestar 5 grand tourer arriving the following year. Finally, the Polestar 6 will become the automaker's halo car when it goes on sale in 2026.
