Rolls-Royce has a rich history with electric vehicles, including their first cars almost 120 years ago and, in more recent times, the 102EX and103EX electric prototypes. As an ultra-luxury automaker focused on a smooth, silent experience, it only makes sense for Rolls-Royce to return to their roots as the whole world prepares for a new generation of innovative electric vehicles. They have just teased an all-new electric coupe called the Spectre, which is set to launch in 2023. For now, we have been given mysterious images of a sleek prototype wrapped in dynamic camouflage, which says phrases like it does not exist and perfectly noiseless.
The Spectre is an all-new development, built on the Architecture of Luxury platform that underpins the Ghost and Phantom luxury sedans. No other technical details have been released by Rolls-Royce, but they did state that a difficult testing process is imminent. The test run will span 2.5 million kilometers, which is the longest Rolls-Royce test program yet, and would preview the experience of driving a Spectre within 400 years.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre will mark a huge milestone for the British marque, and is to lead their transition to a fully electric lineup by 2030. It will also serve as a fitting tribute to the automaker's humble beginnings with electric cars more than a century ago. As we anticipate the arrival of this luxury coupe in 2023, hybridized variants of the Cullinan, Ghost and Phantom should be expected within the next year.
Do you think the Spectre will be better than the Wraith?
