Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark has given us some more details on its first EV, which does not yet have a name. The EV will launch in 2025 with incredible performance, since fewer components in electric vehicles allow for seamless acceleration. Hallmark says that the EV will go from 0-60 in a supercar-smashing 1.5 seconds, packing an incredible 1,400 horsepower.
But such a quick change in motion can cause problems for drivers. "The problem is, it's uncomfortable. And then it just becomes nauseous," Hallmark told Automotive News. The company is planning on solving the problem with a more laid-back acceleration level, in case the occupants just can't handle speeding up so fast.
When asked about what the EV will look like, Bentley's CEO didn't dive into anything specific. The new model will utilize Volkswagen Group's PPE architecture, which will underpin other luxury EVs from Audi and Porsche. If the company's EXP 100 GT Concept is any indication, this EV could take the shape of a sleek sedan or coupe. Some rumors point towards a high-riding sedan to attract SUV fans. But don't worry, Bentley isn't planning on adding plastic cladding or roof rails to its EV.
This speedy EV will be the first of several electric Bentleys when it comes in 2025, as the British marque aims for an all-electric lineup up 2030. Hallmark suggested to Automotive News that pricing will "be more than that Mulsanne price range than anything we have today." That means a starting price of around $300,000.
Would you want to drive an EV that reaches 60 mph in 1.5 seconds?
