The Emira Arrives As The Last Gas-Powered Lotus

Months ago, Lotus announced that they will launch one last gas-powered sports car. At the time, this swan song of a car appeared in a shadowy teaser with the Evija hypercar and two upcoming EVs. The last hurrah for ICE Lotus vehicles is here, and its name is the Emira.

This sharp mid-engined sports car follows the new Lotus design direction called Sports Car Architecture, with Ferrari-like vertical headlights and a larger silhouette than the miniature Evora it will replace. The Emira will offer two fully gas-powered engine options; a 2.0 liter turbocharged inline-four developed by Mercedes-AMG, and the classic 3.5 liter supercharged V6 that powered the Exige and Evora. To please customers even more, Lotus is offering three different transmission options; manual, automatic, or dual clutch (DCT) transmissions. The British automaker didn’t specify the exact gearbox types at this time.

The Lotus Emira will have from 360 to 400 horsepower throughout the range, and it can launch from 0 to 62 miles per hour in under 4.5 seconds. Lotus blasts a top speed of 180 miles per hour or 290 kilometers per hour. The Emira is said to weigh about 3,907 pounds “in its lightest form” and Lotus says that it will start at about $83,000.

Lotus’ Managing Director Matt Windle stated in the press release, “The Emira is a game-changer for Lotus. It stands as a beacon of everything we have achieved to date in the transformation of the business, the embodiment of our progress. It is a highly significant milestone on our path to becoming a truly global performance car brand.” The first Emira models will arrive in the exclusive ‘First Edition’ with the legendary 3.5 liter supercharged V6 from previous Lotus sports cars.
