The Volkswagen Passat has been the brand's main sedan offering for years, but it looks like crossovers and SUVs have just caught another victim. VW was just planning the next generation B9 Passat, which would have merged the European and American versions into one model. But, both markets are facing the discontinuation of this sedan for the 2023 model year.
Luckily, Europe won't see the Passat wagon going away anytime soon. The wagon could change into an ID model, possibly the upcoming ID Roomzz production version. That is coming just in time for the Passat's discontinuation.
Instead of the partially good news that Europe has received, Volkswagen will discontinue their flagship sedan, the luxurious Arteon. We'll miss this car's Audi-like reputation and attractive styling, but a successor is coming. The ID Aero electric sedan will take the Arteon's place as flagship around 2023. Hopefully it lives up to its predecessor.
Volkswagen has just made a big decision for their sedans in Europe and the US, and many will miss the two sedans. At least we'll have the ID Aero and Jetta to keep us company.

Sadly, yes.
At least they will still be around for three more years!
They are discontinuing both the Passat AND the Arteon? WHAT?
